Data Science Infrastructure Engineer

Participate in a multi-disciplinary team that implements and administers Big Data Life/Health Science analytic hardware, tools, software frameworks and database platform solutions for research and clinical departments across the client.
Serve as an internal consultant and bridge between the technology and user groups.
Work closely with research clinicians and bioinformaticians to understand and optimize the technology of IDEA, such as object storage automation leveraging S3 API's and Hadoop/HPC/Cloud environments by leveraging your understanding of and your development in these technologies.
Analyze and optimize performance of storage and Big Data workflows.
Understand performance characteristics of underlying server, network and storage hardware
Learn and then administer the underlying technologies: Hadoop, EMC Isilon, MongoDB etc.
Audit systems and processes for compliance with security and data integrity requirements
Support Technical Customers: Together with the HPC team that includes a scientific applications support specialist and data scientist, provide infrastructure consulting to scientific researchers for very large or diverse datasets using a Data Science approaches specific or that can be applied to IDEA. There is a broad spectrum of applications that exist from diverse fields (genetics, epidemiology, drug development, natural language processing, healthcare analytics and app innovation, and high resolution imaging).
Analyze and resolve customer and technical problems: Troubleshoot platform problems when issues arise. Proposes, maintains and enforces polices, practices and security procedures.
Create and close tasks/tickets within the enterprise service tracking tool using established standards
Develop and maintain system documentation as well as training and reference materials for the community using knowledge management tools
BA/BS/engineering degree required or equivalent combination of skills/experience. Advanced degree in a computational science or engineering discipline preferred.
5+ years of IT experience
3+ years minimum experience in working with Linux systems environments, preferably in scientific computing. Linux Administration experience required.
Experience providing infrastructure support for 3rd-party and open-source applications.
Certifications in VMWare and Linux strongly preferred.
Ability to deeply understand application functionality and technical documentation required.
Knowledge of Backup and Recovery technologies
Knowledge of Open-Source Web Server Systems: JBOSS, Apache, Tomcat
